[more...] Renewable Energy  - [more...] The Stonehenge Inquiry - [more...] The Westbury Bypass - [more...] Westbury, Lafarge cement works Another concern at Westbury is the proposal by Lafarge cement works to extend the chalk pit to the south of the town. This extension would remove about 20 acres of arable farmland, which would never be restored as such, and encroach towards the area of recreation on Winkland Down above the White Horse. CPRE has objected to this extension and also expressed grave reservations about the link between the extension of the chalk pit and the proposals to burn Recycled Liquid Fuel (RLF), which is in effect toxic waste, in cement kilns not built for that purpose. As well as being involved with Regional and Local Plans, Waste, Minerals [more...] and Transport Local Plans. Responses are made to Consultation Documents by the Branch and individual CPRE District Groups

CPRE Wiltshire does not stand for a fossilized countryside.  It accepts that the countryside has always changed and will continue to do so.  But the aims of the Branch are that change should be carefully considered, that the things we treasure most about the countryside – its beauty, diversity and tranquillity – should be preserved as well as its ability to provide us with food and other natural resources.
