CPRE is delighted with the decision of the government appointed planning inspector to refuse the application by Earthline, a quarrying and earthmoving company, at Wroughton airfield in the North Wessex Downs AONB.

This outcome is the result of three local villages working together and campaigning to Swindon Borough Council against the proposal. CPRE members on the ground encouraged a united front from the outset, pointing out that it was not a case of Nimbyism but of flouting all the planning laws.

After nearly two years of dispute the company will have to remove buildings and installations it installed without planning permission.

The company had laid down hard standing for a lorry park, built a weighbridge and office block for staff, added a vehicle washing area and refuelling plant. All without permission.
