Western Gateway: Plans for the A350

3rd January 2021

Having assumed the Western Gateway Strategic Transport Board would rubberstamp their Transport Strategy irrespective of how much carbon it generated, it has come as something of a surprise, and a pleasant one, to find that the recommendation to the most recent, September, meeting is that it is put back until the December meeting, to be reviewed in the light of the number of adverse comments received. 63 representations were received with comments including:

  1. The plan does not reflect the government’s decarbonising priorities or the impacts of Covid-19.
  2. Still reflects a “predict and provide” approach to managing travel demands.
  3. There is still too much focus on highway investment   (most responses).
