Stonehenge – the current situation

In an early statement after taking office, the new Labour Government said that the proposed Stonehenge tunnel was “unaffordable”.

In a reply to Andrew Murrison MP, prompted by a letter from CPRE Wiltshire’s Ken McCall, Lilian Greenwood MP, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Transport and Minister for the Future of Roads wrote:

On the A303 Stonehenge project, following the Chancellor of the Exchequer’s
statement in July which confirmed the scheme was unaffordable and would
be cancelled, the Secretary of State is considering the position in respect of
the DCO for this scheme.

A DCO is a Development Consent Order for a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project.  It had been granted by the previous Government.
