Volunteering opportunities in editorial assistance

Introduction to volunteering opportunities in assisting with editing our newsletter/magazine.

Our 20-page Wiltshire Voice Newsletter goes out twice a year, in Spring and Autumn. We need one or more volunteers with a good eye for detail to carry out a final review of each Newsletter and to research and write short features.  They would work for our volunteer editor and our chairman.

The proof-reader generally checks to ensure that:

  • page numbers and headings are correct
  • spelling and other aspects, such as use of capital letters, are consistent
  • photos and illustrations are correctly captioned
  • the pages as a whole are logically arranged and look pleasing.

The researcher/writer needs to have a good interest in the countryside and to support some or all of our objectives.  They would be asked to research specific topics and to use their initiative to identify others.  They would then write short articles (maybe two or three for each edition).

What skills are required?

We are looking for volunteers who have a high level of English education, however this is not mandatory. Experience in proof reading or a similar role would be ideal but again is not mandatory.
